Jake Paul has vowed to return to the ring this year for the fall of the long-awaited showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Britain’s eagerly anticipated fight was due to take place in Saudi Arabia last month, but was scrapped when Fury was ordered to do a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder.

And YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul intends to ease the pain of the Joshua vs. Fury collapse by putting on his gloves again before the end of the year.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour, he said: “I feel like boxing needs me to fight again this year.

“There aren’t a lot of big fights happening because of Covid. They can’t make Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury.

“So I feel like boxing needs me to fight again and I feel a responsibility to help the sport grow.”

Former Disney star Paul was last in action in August against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

The Problem Child, 24, scored a split decision victory over Woodley to extend his professional record to 4–0.

Paul – along with his older brother Logan – has divided opinion in the boxing world, with many believing they are making fun of the sport.

But unified heavyweight champion Joshua – who is set for a showdown with Oleksandr Usyak – disagrees with this notion about Jake: “[He’s] Great for boxing.

“He’s trying, zero amateur experience, throwing himself into the deep end.

“He’ll probably learn a lot more than a lot of fighters, throwing himself into the deep end, putting himself under pressure.

“Good luck to him.”

I think I need to fight again this year for boxing.

Fury shared Joshua’s opinion, telling IFL TV: “A lot of people say all this YouTube stuff is bullshit and they don’t want to see all these people boxing in.

“But I’m the heavyweight champion and the best fighter ever and I love watching these YouTubers fight.

“I love watching it because it brings a million more eyes to my game where I’m the master.

“And like normal people who will never watch boxing, watch it because of YouTube friends, Love Island and TikTokers.

“The more eyes we have on boxing, the better it will be and the better it will be for the young fighters to come.

“If millions of people are watching TikTokers and stuff they can re-tune in and watch some real boxing later in life.

“It’s all good, it’s PR work for our sport. Anyone who doesn’t like it gets jealous just because they’re not making the money they’re getting.

“That’s it – jealousy. There is a lot of jealousy in this world, especially people who hate others trying to follow their dreams and don’t have the courage to follow their dreams.”
