Harris is meeting with the President of Guatemala on Monday
Vice President Kamala Harris is stressing that she calls the issue “complicated” as the root cause of the migrant increase at the border, as she is facing criticism for dealing with the crisis.
Harris said at a roundtable on the Northern Triangle that the underlying issue was “addressing the acute and root causes of migration from that region, the people who migrate.”
The northern triangle refers to the Central American countries of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.

President Biden made Harris the point man for the crisis last month, but has insisted that his focus is on diplomatic issues related to the region rather than a crisis on the border.
Harris told participants that “most people don’t want to leave the house” and cited a list of factors that he said are causing people to flee from those countries.
“We are looking at the damage caused by widespread hurricanes due to extreme climate, we are looking at droughts in an area where agriculture is the most traditionally important basis for their economy, we are seeing that food What’s happening in the case? ” As a result of this and, in fact, unbelievable food insecurity, what we called hunger food insecurity.
“And we are seeing, therefore, many issues that are related to poverty, extreme poverty. And also that violence is clearly coming out of those areas,” she said. “When you look at the root causes, we are also looking at issues of corruption. Then, we are looking at the issue of climate change and then worry about the lack of economic opportunity.”
Kamala Harris Over Board ‘Categories’
The US is witnessing a dramatic jump in migration across the border, with 172,000 migrants suffered in March alone – and thousands have speculated that border petrol has developed. The spike has overwhelmed the facilities, particularly among the unaccompanied children and migrant families, and has enabled the Biden administration to rapidly open them home.
The Biden administration has placed significant emphasis on the root causes of the crisis, while also stating that migratory surges are seasonal and dismisses critics’ claims that migration by the administration and liberalization of border policy are responsible.
Republicans have pointed to the Biden Administration of Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP )’s decision not to implement Title 42 public health protections for unacceptable children as reasons for the rollback, reduced internal enforcement, and escalation.
He has also attacked Harris for not going to the border.
Harris is scheduled to meet with Guatemala President Alejandro Giamatei on Monday, ahead of his visit to the country in the coming months.
