But the German coach has no shortage of options in the midfield thanks to Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also been given a second chance at Stamford Bridge and has stepped up to the plate in recent weeks.

Another midfielder in his team is Saul Nieges, who is on loan from Atletico Madrid.

But Tuchel admitted after his win over Southampton that he did not trust him to play in the match.

He said: “Saul was very close to start against Southampton on Saturday, but in the end I decided against him.

“I thought it would be unfair to put him in the center of the pitch against an opponent putting pressure so high and say ‘Okay, now prove that your adaptation has progressed.’

“So I hesitated a bit but he has to worry because he has everything we want.

“He has to work hard to adapt and opportunities will come for him.”

Chelsea are at the top of the Premier League table with 16 points from seven matches and will next travel to Brentford on 16 October.
