Fans are looking forward to 2017’s follow-up to “DAMN.” Speculation was renewed throughout the year, and over the summer when the rapper announced his final album for longtime label Top Dog Entertainment in a letter to fans.

Speculation intensified when Kendrick registered several new songs with the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers).

Today (October 21), another sign that new music may be on the way, Kendrick replaced his profile picture on Spotify, often a story sign that an artist is preparing to release new material.

Fans have taken this as a clue that the rapper’s first solo material in four-and-a-half years is imminent, taking to social media to share their excitement.

Reportedly excerpts from the new music have also been leaked online, while many fans are pointing to the ninth anniversary of their breakout album “Good Kid, M’Aid City” which falls tomorrow (October 22).

In his note announcing his final album for Top Dog, Kendrick wrote: “I spend most of my day with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old beach cruisers. Morning rides me up the hill of silence. Hangs up. I go months without a phone.”

It added: “Love, loss and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimpse of God speaks through my music and family. While the world around me continues to evolve, I draw on it. I contemplate what matters most. The life in which my words will lead.

“As I prepare my final TDE album, I’m delighted to be part of such a cultural mark after 17 years. Struggle. Success. And most importantly, brotherhood. Outstanding creators to the ultimate High Commissioner Top Dogg. continue to be used as a character for.”

Kendrick is scheduled to headline the Day en Vegas festival in Las Vegas next month, and will perform with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Mary J. Blige at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
