Kristen Bell admits she told her kids with husband Dax Shepard that she tried eating mushrooms.
The act of honesty later backfired as the actress explained to Jimmy Kimmel during her appearance on his show Tuesday night.
“It went back a few weeks ago because my mom came to town, who is more conservative than I am, and we’re really, really honest with our kids.”
Bell revealed that he tried the mushroom 40 years ago on his 40th birthday and talked about the experience with his children.
Kristen Bell says she gets ‘threatening notes’ from her daughter at home: ‘Hunger strike’
“Then I overheard my daughter talking to her mom — to her grandmother — going, ‘I’m really glad she shares all this with me. So anyway, my mom really wanted to try the mushrooms. , So…'”
“I just walked over and was like, ‘Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh,'” Bell recalled. “For some reason I’m more worried about telling my mom than I am about telling my daughter.”
Bell said Shepard, who is recovering, is “upright” with his children.
“His dad is recovering, so he’s been really honest about what alcohol does to your body, how it makes you feel funny and makes things worse,” she shared. “What do drugs do to your body and why are most drugs illegal and all that.”
Shepard has been outspoken about his battle with addiction. He was sober for the first time in 2004, and admitted that he became ill again in 2020.
He married Bell in 2013 and the couple has two daughters.

Shepard believed that he and Bell were “opposites” at the time they met.
“Everything I had gone through was terrifying to her, and she had a hard time believing that I would ever be able to be married and monogamous and a father and all those things. For the first year and a half we were together, that we were battling almost weekly,” she told Playboy in 2012.
“I just loved getting the f-ed-up – drinking, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, diet pills, pain pills, everything. Mostly my love was Jack Daniel’s and cocaine. Used to go down to people. … I was lucky I didn’t go to jail.
Upon his return in 2020, he thanked Bell and his podcast co-host Monica Padman for their unconditional love.
“I can’t imagine it being possible for other people to admit and feel as safe as I did that you guys wouldn’t hate me. I hated me at the time and so, to tell you guys and feel unconditional love To be able to and I would be accepted was really special,” he said in 2020. “It saved my life.”
