The Standard Record Store Day event took place over two months, 12 June and 17 July this year, with 250 stores participating across the UK. Later in July sales of the vinyl LP increased to over 100,000 units.

In July, the owner of HMV stated that the chain of record stores “would love to play a part in Record Store Day”. “There are a lot of areas in the UK where our participation in Record Store Day would be beneficial to those in the know, as we have stores in many places that don’t have independent shops,” said managing director Phil Holiday.

“I think it would be great for [music] Fans if we were a part of record store day. Canadian stores participate and this is something we would like to do.”
