In 2020, Los Angeles saw two of its icons, one from sports and the other from music, taking the city further away from the deaths of Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hustle. For many, they were two inspirations, not only as an athlete and artist, but also for the work they put in to get there and how they shared their gifts with the community.
LeBron James, like many in the NBA, was hardened by both losses, and has been vocal about the influence of both men on him. Bryant and Lebron were friends before and after James took Mantle as the Lakers’ top star and leaned on Bryant for guidance, while Hassall’s work as an artist and activist also had a lasting impact on James. On Wednesday night, James posted on Instagram to show a new painting at his home at Kobe and Nipsy’s, saying they would “erase me every single day when I walk down the hallway.”

This is a very poignant piece, performed by Lindsay Dawn Studios, and it is clear how impressed James was by both men, they wanted to be sure to carry on his legacy as he went on to create his own LA legend Goes on the journey of becoming.
