Leonardo has not given up hope of keeping Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain beyond next summer, as the club’s sporting director lashed out at Real Madrid for their efforts to award the star away from France.
Mbappé, 22, has long been linked with a switch to the Bernabeu, with the Frenchman being the subject of a £154 million bid in the summer transfer window.
The striker has since confirmed that he has asked PSG to allow him to move to Madrid, and with his contract expiring next summer, the Spaniards are hopeful they can finally land their man.

However, Leonardo says the club is confident they can hold on to Mbappe for next season, insisting that the World Cup winner is still their ‘jewel’.
‘Our idea is to extend Kylian Mbappe’s contract,’ Leonardo tells Festival dello Sport fabrizio romano.
‘Nothing has changed in our plans. Kian is a jewel, he is incredibly perfect for PSG… [Messi], NS. We have never planned PSG future without Mbappe.

Leonardo also took aim at Madrid for his dog chase of Mbappe, claiming he ‘should be punished’ for attempting to land the Frenchman on a free transfer.
‘They deny Madrid, but I think Real Madrid are working to buy Mbappe’ [as a free agent] for a long time,’ he said. ‘For two years they have been publicly speaking about Mbappe. It should be punished.
Mbappe confirmed this week that he wants to leave PSG in the middle of the summer to give Ligue 1 giants time to source ‘quality’ replacements.
