Liberal journalists and members of the media celebrated YouTube’s action to censor anti-vaccine content.

YouTube announced on Wednesday that the platform is cracking down on “misinformation” involving a coronavirus vaccine, which would also apply to vaccines for other diseases.

“Working closely with health officials, we see our commitment to an open platform to be balanced with the need to remove seriously harmful content,” YouTube said in a statement posted to its blog. “We have seen false claims about coronavirus vaccines spread to misinformation about vaccines in general, and we are now at a point where we have expanded the work we started with COVID-19 to other vaccines. It’s more important than ever to do that.”

CNN anchor Jim Scutto acknowledged the news, telling viewers that YouTube is “finally, some might say, cracking down on vaccine disinformation.”

CNN technology reporter Donnie O’Sullivan, who spends most of his time correcting “misinformation”, responded by suggesting that it was a “surprise” that YouTube would “allow” such content in the first place. Had been.

“I mean, we’re almost two years into this pandemic,” O’Sullivan said. “This is really basic crazy stuff that I think a lot of people would have assumed from these Silicon Valley platforms with all the talk that this stuff would already be banned.”

Others also took to Twitter expressing a similar sentiment.

“Finally,” tweeted MSNBC host Joy Reid.

“Finally! Good grief,” wrote Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin.

“Nearly 2 years and 700,000 deaths later,” Huffington Post editor Philip Lewis shrugged off the tech giant.

“It’s good news, but it’s a little late,” reacted Salt Lake Tribune correspondent Brian Schott. “They could have done it a long time ago and chose not to because it would hurt the bottom line.”

Substack journalist Glenn Greenwald warned of the adoption of social media censorship by the media.

“Just the latest episode in an endless row proves that the major agitators for greater censorship – the prime enemy of free discourse in America – are employees of corporate media outlets. They simply don’t accept the huge censorship wave. They’re angry. No more censors,’ Greenwald tweeted.

“The fact that we are so accustomed to being activists leading to *censorship* of corporate journalists has normalized it and obscured how perverse and ill-advised it is. As I have said before, this It would be as if there were cardiologists who smoked more cigarettes for major cheerleaders,” he said.
