In a fan Q&A recently hosted on Edin Ross’s livestream, the rapper said that XXX once reached out to him from behind bars, but the release never took place.

“He called me once when he was in prison a long time ago. I was going on stage, I was on tour for The Weeknd and he actually rapped a song for me that he never kept and it It was really cool,” Vert told fans.

But after XXX died during an armed robbery in 2018, Vert admitted that he felt “really strange” about working on the posthumous track.

“Yes, I’d love to do a song with him but I’m really weird at things like this. Don’t get me wrong, it took me a long time to do this with another artist. I’m really weird because I understand That they’re not living here and what if that’s not the vision they really want? Especially if they really fuck with me. What if it’s all wrong, if they did it all wrong and I I’ll feel bad if I’m not here. But you know, if it works, it works,” he said.

It’s unclear whether XXX recorded anything with Vert (see “he never kept” comment above).

As hiphopDX Notes, Vert has said in the past that he “misses” XXX’s “presence” despite the duo being in direct competition as graduates of the so-called SoundCloud rap movement.

Meanwhile, last month Vert shared one of his first singles from Halloween for Days of the Year, titled “Monster High.”
