Liverpool have appointed Brazilian legend Taferrell as a senior goalkeeping coach – making him the third of his kind in the current staff set-up at Anfield.

The 55-year-old will be joined by current coaches John Echterberg and Jack Robinson to coach the men between sticks, and is reported to have been personally requested by No. 1 star Alison Baker.

Taffarel currently works with Alisson with the Brazil national team, and will now balance his commitments between the two camps.

is informed by aim That Taffrell’s arrival is prompted in no small part by Alison Baker, who signed a lucrative new six-year deal with the Reds over the summer.

Tafarel is one of the most decorated goalscorers in Brazilian history, having won 101 caps for the national side and two Copa América titles, as well as the 1994 World Cup after a penalty shootout in the United States.

His CV at club level includes goals with Parma and Regiana in Italy, the latter scoring for Galatasaray.

He later served as a coach and had two short spells as interim manager before leaving the Turkish giants in 2019.

He has served as a goalkeeping coach for the Brazil national team since 2014, where he formed a close relationship with Alisson and was instrumental in helping the 29-year-old become one of the best goalkeepers on the planet.

It is further reported that Taffrell visited Liverpool’s AXA training center last week to have preliminary discussions with the club on a possible role during the summer.

The arrival of the Brazilian now naturally raises questions about the long-term future of Echterberg, who has been a mainstay at Anfield for many years.

The Dutchman has been with the club since 2009, and has worked with the first team since 2011 under various managers.

He has a strong relationship with Jurgen Klopp and is known as a popular figure among the senior squad and club staff.
