Long Lost Family was the first show after an audience was exposed to life-changing information about a missing brother.
Last night saw the return of Born Without Trace: What Happened Next which revisits some of the people who attended the show.
David McBride and Helen Ward were both the founders who appeared on the show in October 2019.
David was left wrapped in a blue and white shawl and placed in the front seat of a random car some 60 years ago.
Meanwhile Helen was found on the other side of the Irish border in a telephone box in March 1968.
When David sent his DNA to an online database, he had no idea Helen was on it, and the Long Lost Family team was able to confirm that they were full siblings.
The pair were thrilled to meet each other, and eventually, the team was able to help them learn more about their parents, who had both passed away.
It was revealed that his Catholic mother had a long-standing relationship with his Protestant father, who was married with 14 children and aged 17.
On last night’s show, there was another twist, as it was revealed that a woman in Australia named Donna had seen the first show about David and Helen, and reached out to the team about her father, John.
Donna saw a remarkable resemblance between her father, David and Helen, and knew that he was also a founder who was discovered in a telephone box in the 1960s under similar circumstances to others.
A DNA test then proved that John was also his full brother, with expert Ariel Bruce saying: “It’s an absolute first.”
The three siblings had their first emotional meeting, with Helen telling John: “I’m so grateful, I’m so grateful, so grateful that you and David are both in my life now, absolutely grateful.”
John said: “DNA testing was the best thing I’ve ever done. Today has arrived and I know who I really am. And I have a family – another family – and it’s great to know your roots.”
