6 inches of snow is possible in New England
Another major winter storm is looming in the eastern part of the country.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong weather will be possible over sections of the Southeast and Florida while snow and ice will make travel difficult if not impossible in the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast.
Between a quarter to half an inch of snow will be possible in parts of North Carolina as far as Virginia. There will be some danger of dangerous driving conditions, power drainage failure and tree damage in the next 24 hours.

Freezing rain and snow will also plunge parts of the 1-95 corridor from DC to Philadelphia.
3 to 6-inch snow totals will be possible from the Lower Hudson Valley to New England, while the entire Northeast will receive snow on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the dangerous cold air is going to take some time to retreat, especially in the south. Temperatures will be 20 to 30 degrees below average for a wide range of plains, which is not helpful for those who have been without electricity or heat for days.
Another round of rain and snow will go northwest from Northern California to Washington State. There will be 1 to 2 inches of rain along the coast and one foot of snow upstream to the mountains.
