Hamilton police have arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of violent domestic assault and the kidnapping of a Hamilton-area man and the shooting of his son last month.
Description-Sgt. Steve Bereziuk says Antoine Chambers has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and grievous assault. Chambers has been charged with multiple firearms-related charges after a firearm was recovered by police.
Investigators say they are continuing to search for two more suspects wanted in the case.
Fakir Ali, 63, was the target of the kidnapping at his Mount Hope home on September 16.
In an attempt to protect his father, Ali’s two adult sons were shot. One of them, 21-year-old Hasnain “Nano” Ali, later died of his wounds.
According to police, Ali was found hours later near a lift bridge and was suffering from serious life-threatening injuries.
Police say Chambers was arrested on the night of the kidnapping and shooting. Investigators say the public enabled police to track down the suspect’s vehicle in Hamilton, where he was arrested. Police say a firearm was recovered at that time.
Investigators say money was behind the attack.
“The accused was looking for money from Mr. Ali,” said Bereziuk, but did not elaborate further on the motive. “An amount was clearly demanded and no money has ever been received.”
“We are still looking into why Mr. Ali was targeted. There is no clear answer yet.”
Police said Fakir Ali’s wife and daughter were also at home during the attack, but were not injured.
