Man has been jailed for sending sexual messages and grooming girls to 12-year-old girls on Facebook.
John Mongan, 54, of Hackney, created a fake social media account and contacted six girls.
He was sentenced to nine years in prison at Snaresbrück Crown Court on six counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming. was sentenced.
He will also be on the sex offenders’ register for life after stalking girls aged 12-14.
The court had heard that Mongan added each of the profiles as friends and privately messaged them, assuming they were children.
Within the first few messages, Mongan’s communications became increasingly erotic, despite the profile of his young age becoming apparent from the start and reminding him throughout.
Mongan’s messages were very demanding and graphic. She also sent several pictures of what he claimed was his penis, and made frequent attempts to engage in sexual phone and video calls with profiles.
They also sent pictures of the huge pile of cash and asked how they would like to spend it. He wrote things like, “I want a lot of sex in return and love you can you give me all that”, the jury was told.
She traveled to Homerton train station in Hackney in August 2020, where he arranged to meet her using her fake Facebook profile, which she believed was a 14-year-old girl.
It was his intention to become sexual for this meeting.
When he arrived, Mongan realized that the meeting was not with a 14-year-old girl and left. Later that evening he was spotted in the local area and was arrested by the police.
It was clear during the investigation that Mongan was aware that his actions were illegal and wrong and made several attempts to cover his tracks and avoid being caught, the court heard.
He erased evidence of their conversations and officers spent hours checking his equipment and gathering evidence to attribute the fake Facebook profile to Mongan.
He was charged in January 2022 and remanded to custody.
PC Lindsay England, a member of the Central East Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation team, led the investigation.
He said, “As part of the investigation I reviewed hundreds of pages of communication. Almost every single page contains Mongan’s extremely erotic chat, in which he sometimes gives detailed instructions and descriptions of sexual acts.
“The profile offered them no encouragement, and instead attempted to remind them how apathetic and naive they were in sex. Mongan’s manipulative methods and quirky use of language are some of the worst. Mongan said Used foster home threats and promises of love, care, and money in an effort to feed their sexual fantasies and interests.
“His desire to groom and abuse what he believed to be six separate children was above anything else, and he did so to no avail. His sole interest was to do everything possible to deny and hide his criminal activities.” Had he not been arrested, he would have continued with this crime.”
