Ankara, Turkey – In a scene worthy of a comedy sketch, a Turkish man joins a search team for a missing person who doesn’t realize he is being followed.
51-year-old Behan Mutlu went to drink with a friend in a forest in the town of Inegol in northwestern Turkey late Tuesday night. When he did not return home, his wife reported his disappearance and heard that he had run away from his friend while intoxicated.
Turkish online news site T24 reported Friday that Gendarmerie and rescue teams were called to find Mutlu, who had gone to sleep in a house in the woods.
He met the members of the search team in the morning and decided to help them find the missing person. They realized that he was the focus of the search when they started calling his name.
“After a while, they said they were looking for Behan Mutlu,” T24 quoted him as saying. “I broke my sweat when I heard my name.”
“I told them I was Behan Mutlu, but they kept on searching,” Mutlu continued. “They didn’t believe me. The truth came out when my friend Mesut saw me.”
Mutlu said he was part of the search team for more than half an hour.
