Manchester United fans praised Michael Carrick when he finally managed to get the best out of Jadon Sancho.
The 21-year-old England winger has arrived at Old Trafford after four incredible seasons at Borussia Dortmund.
But Sancho struggled to adapt to United following his £73m move, leaving supporters worried.
Prior to the Villarreal game, Sancho had failed to score or assist in any of his 14 matches.
Worse, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – who was sacked on Sunday morning just hours after a 4-1 loss at Watford – seemed to have no clue where to play.
Signs to the right and left followed rumors that the Norwegian was playing him on the right wing-back in a defensive five.
But Carrick – commanding his first game as interim boss – has trapped him in his favorite right-wing role.
And the Three Lions youngster easily put up his best performance of the season, sealing the game in a thunderous 2-0 victory in the top corner, securing a route to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

After the game, Carrick praised the winger for his performance, saying: “So happy for Sancho. He took his socks off. He gave it his all.
“At times it wasn’t always with the ball… He showed both sides of his game tonight and got it off to get his goal.
“Jadon keeping him away was brilliant.
“I know how much Jadon likes the ball on his feet. He put in a great effort defensively and it was worth it.
“It’s up to Jadon what happens next and how he kicks, he has all the talent in the world and he will get our support which is for sure.”
After the game, Sancho tweeted his joy at finally breaking his disappointing goal drought.
The England winger wrote: “Proud to score my first goal for @ManUtd in the best competition in world football @ChampionsLeague!
“Great team effort from the boys tonight, we build from this.”
And United fans praised Sancho – and Carrick – for using them in the right way.
British rapper Lethal Bizzle tweeted: “That’s why you play Sancho.”
Sancho’s England teammate – and former Dortmund friend – Jude Bellingham simply tweeted ‘JS’, compete with the smiling emoji.
One United supporter said: “It’s amazing what happens when you play Sancho in his perfect position.”
Another wrote: “If you want to talk about positions and strategy Sancho has been fantastic tonight. Great player.”
In a growing mountain of similar posts, one fan tweeted: “Well played Jadon Sancho tonight. Playing in my normal state. Strange that…”
