new law, Senate Bill 8, Texas bans most abortions and makes the state one of the most restrictive in the United States in terms of access to abortion services.

Restrictive laws prohibit abortion after cardiac activity is detected in the fetus. This time frame is usually around six weeks, before most people know they are pregnant. Cases involving rape or incest are no exception, and private citizens have the right to take legal action against anyone who helps them obtain an abortion.

During her set on Saturday (October 8), Megan told the crowd (via) Board🙂 “This middle finger is also for these bastard men who want to tell us what to do with our bodies.

“Cause how the fuck are you going to tell me what to do with my bastard body? Leave that shit.”

After the set, she wrote on Instagram: “You all know I’m a Texas girl and we deserve better! Politicians want to close access to abortion and take control of our bodies, lives and future – I I’m speaking.”

Yungblood, Maggie Rogers, St. Vincent and Lucy Dacas all spoke out against the enforcement of the laws in the first week of September. Dacas, along with Jack Antonoff, also pledged proceeds from their respective shows in Texas to charities supporting abortion.

On October 1, Phoebe Bridgers officially released a version of Bo Burnham’s ‘That’s Funny Feeling’ on Bandcamp, with all proceeds going to a range of abortion funds in Texas.

Billie Eilish also took the opportunity to share his opposition to the law during his Austin City Limits headline set.

At one point during the show, Eilish admitted: “When they legislated that shit, I almost didn’t want to do the show because I wanted to punish for allowing this fucking place to be here.”

Elsewhere, Austin City Limits has apologized to Phoebe Bridgers for cutting her voice last weekend before the end of their festival.

Bridgers’ voice was cut in the lead-up to the climax of ‘I Know the End’, the closing track of his ‘Punisher’. The footage shows the Bridgers continuing to play until the end of the track despite the interruption. Shortly after his set was over, he tweeted “lol fuck acl”.
