Seated in a tennis-umpire’s chair and wearing a large foam finger, he guides hundreds of fans heading to the metro station – Souq Waqif – the historic market, with the help of his trusty megaphone.

His helpful advice, “Metro? This way. Metro? Thus,” has now become a well-known catchphrase.

“We love him; we love the subway guy,” said one fan, pointing to Abbas.

“I saw her on Tiktok. I thought it was really funny. he makes me laugh; It’s such a simple thing,” added a young fan wearing a Chelsea football shirt.

Visitors to the popular Souq Waqf regularly interact with Abbas, engaging back and forth and creating pantomime-like scenes.

Not much is known about Abbas, but the enigmatic social media star has earned praise for bringing excitement to an otherwise mundane task.

“He’s really, really enjoying his job”, said one impressed fan.

Abbas is now inspiring other staffers to join in the fun, with many of them now donning their trademark foam fingers and providing direction to fans in creative ways.
