Donald Trump’s former aide Michael Flynn has put forward another conspiracy theory, this time involving an unidentified “global elite” who claimed they were orchestrating the COVID-19 pandemic and now the public. But planning to “plant” a new virus.

Mr Flynn, a former national security adviser to the 45th president, said there was going to be “an increase in other aspects of COVID (sic).”

“We got different types. There may be another form of SARS that has been imposed on the international system, right?” he said Wednesday in an interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

“His little plan with Covid didn’t work because a lot of people in, you know, the world are what I call digital warriors or citizen journalists who are out there. They are fighting for the truth, and hence the truth about the tyranny of Covid we are facing has been exposed,” he said.

“So I think what we’re going to see is potentially another type of virus that is imposed on the public,” he continued, without any evidence to support the statement.

The former Army general, who has put forward conspiracy theories revolving around the QAnon movement, also made another evidence-free claim about the US economy, which he said would soon be called a “controlled depression”. .

“I believe we are going to see some things. I think we will see… and I call it controlled depression. Some kind of financial, you know… just a manipulation or financial collapse,” he said .

He pleaded guilty twice before the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for making false statements, but was pardoned by Mr Trump before he could be sentenced. Mr Flynn served as Mr Trump’s first national security adviser before being fired for misleading former Vice President Mike Pence and lying to the FBI.

Earlier in September, he had claimed without evidence that COVID vaccines were being injected into salad dressings and administered to people.

At a far-right conference last week that drew a flurry of Trump loyalists and anti-vaccination doctors, Mr Flynn said America must have “a religion under God”.

“If we are to make a nation under God what we want, we must have a religion,” he said.

Mr Flynn faced backlash for his comments, where critics warned about repeating history in relation to the Holocaust.

He had previously called for a military coup to restore the former president. He was sent a subpoena by the committee to testify about an Oval Office meeting he had last December about advancing false claims that the election had been stolen from Trump.

Meanwhile, a House Democrat has urged the Pentagon to cancel Mr Flynn’s military pension because of the retired army general’s role in attempting to reverse the results of Trump’s 2020 election.
