Michigan Rep Tells Fellow Lawmaker: I Hope ‘Your Car Explodes’

Lansing, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan lawmaker told another lawmaker he hoped the car “exploded on the way,” according to text messages filed in court to support a request for a personal protection order.

Macomb County Republican Marino and Oakland County Democrat Manoyogian had a personal relationship that ended more than a year ago.

Manoyogian, 29, received a protection order from a judge last week, days after Marino, 32, was removed from the House committees. alleged abuse. The state police is investigating.

There was no indication in the court file when the text messages were written, The Detroit News reported.

Merino said he expects Manoyogian’s “car to explode on the way” and warned him to “hide on the House floor” in a series of lessons in which he also discussed issues being handled by the state House committee.

Manogian said in a court filing, “After 21 months of trying to ignore Steve’s threats and harassment, and countless times begging me to stop messaging me in such harassing ways, I had no choice but to report his abuse to my Democratic leader.”

Merino said he was the victim of “character assassination”. His lawyer, Mike Rataj, said he would challenge the protection order.

“These statements are so out of context, and we’re just going to go ahead and put it aside,” he said.

This order could conflict with Merino’s ability to vote on the floor of the House if Manoyogians are present. The MLAs will be in the Capitol on Tuesday.
