A witness called 911 to report a possible domestic incident between Petito and his fiancée. , Brian Laundry, at around 4:30 p.m. that day.

Weeks later, Laundry went home to his parents’ home in Florida—in Petito’s van but without him. He then hired a lawyer and said nothing to the police — or to his fiancé’s family, according to officials.
