Sky has unveiled a brand new “streaming TV” that doesn’t require a satellite dish.
This means you can watch Sky TV without Dish outside your home.
- Sky Glass, from £13 per month – Pre-register interest here
The gadget is a proper 4K Ultra HD quantum dot television – “the only TV in the world that has Sky Inside”, Sky boss Dana Strong said at the launch event in London.
It works over WiFi instead of satellite dish.
And Sky says it’s affordable, starting at just £13 a month – on sale from 18 October.
The UK broadcaster has been teasing the gadget as “magical” for weeks – but now it’s official.
It supports Dolby Atmos and HDR (including HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision), has an anodized aluminum frame, and uses just one power cord.
Sky says there are three sizes available: 43-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch.
raise its price
The 43-inch model costs £649 or £13 per month, while the 55-inch model costs £849 or £17 per month.
For the top model, you’ll pay £1,049 or £21 per month.
If you bundle in the Sky Ultimate TV package, the price increases to £39 per month.
It gives you all the main channels, Sky Originals and Sky Exclusives as well as Netflix.
By comparison, the current Sky Q costs £26 per month for 18 months – up to £49 in setup fees.
For an extra tenor, you can get a Sky Stream puck, which will let you cast Sky to other TVs in your house—so you don’t have to pay for Sky Glass in every room.
There are five colors of Sky Glass available, including blue, green and black.
You can say “Hello, Sky” to wake up your TV.
And you can use voice requests to call specific channels, TV shows or movies.
In the spring of next year, Sky will also kick off a smart camera add-on for the top of the line TVs.
It allows video calls, interactive games like Fruit Ninja and sharing with friends.
Sky Boxes currently use the Internet to stream certain content.
But a satellite dish has always been a must for complete setup and service.
Sky already offers a TV-over-Internet service called Sky Go, but it requires an existing Sky plan to work.
Now you can use the new Sky Glass TV to watch TV without a satellite dish.
Installing a sky dish isn’t always ideal.
Some people don’t like how they look, and others simply can’t install them.
And converting your possessions just to watch TV feels like a relic of the past.
The new Sky Glass TV is a full Sky Q offering – instead of just over the Internet.
So you can still watch regular channels, and even record content.
You’ll also get access to similar catch-up and on-demand apps like Netflix and Disney+.
The sky is the limit
We spoke to industry expert Paolo Pescatore, who said it would make life a lot harder for Sky rivals.
“The news for me is about the possibility of getting the premium Sky Q TV experience without a satellite dish,” said the PP Foresight analyst.
“Certainly, if it is integrated into other connected devices it will make the service a sticker away for homes.
“This opens up new revenue opportunities for Sky with higher margins.
“Possibility of innovative dual and triple play bundles with fast fiber and even gigabit connectivity.
“It’s tough for rivals to compete given Sky’s dominance in TV and its position as an aggregator of major streaming services.”

It’s probably no surprise that you’ll need Visit the Sky website to pre-register your interest In Sky Glass.
