NYC could see first snowfall of season over Thanksgiving weekend

According to meteorologists, New York City could have its first snowfall of the season as a winter storm hits the region over the weekend, as temperatures drop unusually low.

Snow is forecast for the area under the influence of the lake on Sunday, although temperatures and daylight hours are expected to accumulate only a small layer of snow, ranging from an inch to an inch, over the city. According to Accuweather,

Cities north of New York such as Albany and Hartford, Connecticut are all likely to see a few inches of snow from the storm, meteorologists said, as do other areas to the north and west.


AccuWeather predicted that the airline was likely to be delayed due to the plane being shredded in some places.

If the high-speed storm from Sunday night through Monday suddenly stops and strengthens, New York City will be more likely to accumulate snow.

AccuWeather reported that temperatures fell 8 -15 degrees Fahrenheit below normal on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures warmed slightly for Thanksgiving on Thursday, but by the weekend, temperatures are expected to drop again to mid- to late-December levels.

Abnormally warm Atlantic Ocean temperatures will reduce the likelihood of ice accumulation in the immediate region, where the mixing of rain and snow is more likely.

Accuweather forecasts that local road conditions will be wet with potentially slippery spots outside urban areas when roads cool down on Sunday night.
