New York – An NYPD off-duty officer has been charged with shooting two women inside a home in Brooklyn.
According to officials, after 5 pm on Wednesday, a 31-year-old woman officer shot dead a 24-year-old woman and shot and injured a 23-year-old woman inside a house on 19th and 79th. Street in Bensonhurst.
Police say the off-duty officer was outside the house when they reached the spot and told them he had shot someone inside.
Upon entering the home, officers found one woman on the living room floor and another on the bedroom floor, both with gunshot wounds.
Both women were taken to Maimonides Hospital, where the 24-year-old was pronounced dead. The 23-year-old is expected to recover.
The incident is being treated as a case of murder and the motive is believed to be domestic in nature. Officers say they believe the officer was in a relationship with a 23-year-old woman.
Responsible for the shooting is a 5-and-a-half-year NYPD veteran who was assigned to the Brooklyn South campus, the officer said. Police say she was “quiet, collected and very forthcoming” about what had happened, and confessed to the shooting.
He has been taken into custody and is presently admitted to the hospital for evaluation.
