A former FBI agent has said it’s possible that Brian Laundry – the missing fiancé of Van-Life blogger Gabby Petito, whose death has been ruled a homicide – is helping her escape.
Brianna Fox, a former FBI special agent and professor of criminology at the University of South Florida, speculates that either a “fan” or someone in Mr.
Police have called Mr Laundry Miss Petito’s “person of interest”. While police dubbed his death a “murder” after the remains were found in Wyoming over the weekend, Mr. Laundry has not been charged with the crime. Mr Laundry returned home without Ms Petito when the pair were on a cross-country road trip together. He went missing from his parents’ house and has been missing since September 14. A massive search is underway to try and locate him in Florida’s Carlton Reserve.
appearing on Today, Ms. Fox was asked what she would do to track down Mr. Laundry.
“There’s a lot we can do as an investigator, including trying to preserve any sort of digital evidence that can help us understand where Brian is going. The people he’s living with Trying to meet him, or maybe even fans of his Instagram account who are trying to help him.”
Ms Fox said it was likely there would be digital evidence that could help trace Mr Laundry’s whereabouts, given that he had been missing for more than a week.
“Obviously for food and shelter you have to have a credit card or at least need support through cash assistance from someone, it all leaves these digital trails.”
She continued: “Being able to pull those financials or pull digital communications between Brian and a fan, or Brian and someone like that… it could probably be someone in their inner circle. A lot of people like that. would not be willing to do so for the person who is a known fugitive at this point, without […] in their inner circle. “
“It seems like there are only a few possibilities,” Ms Fox continued. “One is that he’s still hiding and there’s a lot of room to discover, so that’s a possibility, but the other is that unfortunately Gabby and Brian both passed away in the incident. If that’s the case then we probably We’ll never know what really happened to Gabby. So there’s a lot of reasons why we’re hoping to find Brian.”
The police search for Mr. Laundry continues at the 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve near his family home. Law enforcement captured a deer on camera in the Florida Panhandle, investigating a possible sighting of it, but determined there was no connection. In a statement Tuesday, FBI special agent in charge Michael Schneider said the agency was determined to ensure that no one would be “responsible for, or involved in his death, whether for his actions”. accountable”.
“The FBI’s commitment to justice is at the forefront of every investigation,” he said.
