The Orange County Sheriff said Saturday that Florida officials have found the body of 19-year-old college student Mia Marcano, who went missing more than a week ago.
Orange County Sheriff John W. Mina said that after several days of searches, teams found the body in a wooded area near Timber Scan Apartments in Orlando, Florida, at around 10:45 a.m. Saturday. at a press conference on Saturday.
“We are very sure about the identity,” Meena said, but he acknowledged that the medical examiner’s office has not yet confirmed the body’s identity. Mina said a purse bearing Marcano’s identity was found near the body.
Detectives informed Marcano’s family of the discovery this morning.
“Our hearts are broken,” Mina said. “Everyone wanted this result to be different.”
Before missing, Marcano, a student at Orlando’s Valencia College, was last seen on the evening of September 24. Marcano was working in the apartment complex where she lived and worked when a maintenance worker on the premises used a master key fob to access her apartment, Mina said.
That maintenance worker, 27-year-old Armando Caballero, had been working on the premises since June and is believed to be interested in the case.
“He had demonstrated a romantic interest in Mia. This was reprimanded by Mia over and over again,” Mina said.
On Monday, officers found Caballero dead in another apartment complex north of Orlando. “It looks like he has killed himself,” Mina said.
Mina said he did not want to speculate about the cause of death of the body found on Saturday morning, but added, “We believe quite conclusively that Armando Caballero is responsible for this crime, and no other person or person.” Not that we are looking into this matter.”
