Robertson will appear in High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court later today after being charged in connection with the two incidents.

Shani, the daughter of a millionaire, was tied with a blue dupatta, her hands tied with jump leads and her feet tied with a tow rope.

Reports from the time suggest that a post-mortem examination found no evidence of injury from the conflict and did not indicate sexual assault.

Detectives initially treated her death as a suicide, while her body was found tied and strangled in a lake.

After the post-mortem it was found that she had drowned, only after that the investigation into the murder was started.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Review Team, a man is to appear in court in connection with the crimes of murder, kidnapping and rape that occurred in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire in the 1980s .

“Donald Robertson, age 66, formerly of Slow, Berkshire, is due to appear at High Wycombe Magistrates Court today on charges of multiple offences.

“The court hearing will relate to the murder of Shani Warren, whose body was found in a lake in Taplow in April 1987, as well as the abduction and rape of a 16-year-old girl in Farnham Lane, Slough, July, 1981. “

Ms. Warren disappeared on April 17, 1987, after leaving her home in Stoke Poges, which she shared with two housewives and was bought by her parents.

After mowing the lawn, she got into her car to dispose of the mowing in the compost pile at her parents’ home in Gerards Cross, but she never returned.

Her body was found the next day at 6.30 pm in Lake Tapalo by Marjorie Arnold, who was walking her dog.

The German Shepherd dragged her owner into the lake, where she uncovered Ms. Warren’s tied and sore-faced body in water.

Before her body was discovered, a lorry driver saw Ms. Warren’s car parked in lay-bys on the A4.

A reconstruction played on the BBC TV series Crimewatch showed that the vehicle had been left open, with a door slightly open.

Reconstruction states that some of Ms. Warren’s belongings were found by the vehicle underground.

Despite being broadcast on Crimewatch, no one was arrested for her murder and the coroner at the time filed an open verdict.

For the first three days after Shani’s body was found, the police treated his death as a suicide, claiming that he had tied himself up.

The murder investigation was launched only after a full-scale post-mortem examination – wasting three valuable days of investigation.
