A plumber working at Pastor Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, discovered hundreds of envelopes containing checks and cash hidden in a wall behind a toilet.
Justin told 100.3 The Bull’s radio show that, while he was working at a Texas church on November 10, “there was a loose toilet in the wall, and we removed the tile.”
“We went to remove the toilet, and I took some of the insulation away and about 500 envelopes fell out of the wall,” he said. The man contacted a maintenance supervisor and turned in an envelope of cash and checks.
Houston Police Department confirmed in a statement on Friday That officials were called to the church last month “members of the church said that during a renovation project, a large sum of money – including cash, checks and money orders – was found inside a wall.”
Houston police confirmed in a Friday statement that “evidence from recovered checks suggests this November case is connected to a 2014 reported theft”. Police investigation continues.
Lakewood Church recently confirmed the finding of the cash and check to Granthshala.
“Lakewood immediately notified the Houston Police Department and is assisting them with their investigation,” Church said in a statement Friday.
of houston KPRC told This week Crime Stoppers in Houston offered a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect at the time of the theft. But the organization told the outlet that plumbers would not be rewarded, citing the statute of limitations and other factors.
