While Porter won the category for the show’s second season in 2019, the snub was perhaps the biggest upset for Rodriguez. It was her first nomination for Pose after three seasons, making history as the first transgender actor to receive a Best Actress award at the Primetime Emmys.
This made Rodriguez’s loss to Coleman especially devastating to fans. “Coleman is great in Crown But you kinda realized MJ Rodriguez was having that moment,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “MJ deserved to win so why not make history.”
Another wrote: “I’m so upset that the #PoseFX team is running for nothing tonight. MJ Rodriguez and Billy Porter deserved the win, and while Crown Well, I don’t know why it’s getting busty tonight.”

I’m really sad that MJ Rodriguez didn’t win especially because she put all her heart into the pose, she was the heart of the pose but she continues to make history as the first trans woman to be nominated for an Emmy in a major acting category And he is my winner.pic.twitter.com/uuvI9ujUPF

I love Olivia Colman but damn it. MJ Rodriguez has been the heart and soul of Pose from the first minute. Her performance last season was incredible and, while awards aren’t everything, I wish she was going with that trophy tonight.

Losing Amy comes as no surprise to me. They have been doing this since the beginning. Degrading the cast was already a red flag during Season 2. And MJ Rodriguez isn’t winning? it’s all over. #amy pic.twitter.com/PxqI07MWI1
