Prince Charles went to a hospital in London on Saturday to meet his father Prince Philip, who was admitted the week before for “observation and rest” when he fell ill.

Charles arrived in the private King Edward VII’s hospital by car in the afternoon and stayed for about half an hour. The hospital’s website says that seizures are allowed only in “exceptional circumstances” due to the coronovirus epidemic.

99-year-old Philip was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday on the advice of his doctor, with what Buckingham Palace described as a “precautionary measure”.

Queen Elizabeth II’s husband is expected to last through the weekend and into the following week.

Philip’s disease is believed to be unrelated to COVID-19. She and Rani, 94, both received their first dose of a vaccine against coronavirus in early January.

Philip, who retired from public duties in 2017, rarely appears in public. His most recent public event was a military ceremony at Buckingham Palace in July.

During England’s current Coronavirus lockdown, Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, has been with the Queen at Windsor Castle, west of London, who have performed duties such as meetings with far-flung people.

The royal family is planning a ceremony to mark Philippe’s 100th birthday on 10 June, allowing the lockout.

Philip married the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and was the longest reigning royal association in British history. He And the queen has four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The youngest grandson of Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brookbank’s son was born on 9 February and is named Augustus Philip Hawk Brookbank, with a name between them in tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh.
