Reporter’s headband on morning politics show raises eyebrows

A reporter’s hat on a Sunday TV show has generated a mix of strange and shocking reactions on social media.

With Jeff Horwitz, a technology reporter wall street journal, wore a quirky combination of gray suit and matching gray headband to her interview on NBC meet the Press.

His media presence was originally about an internal dynamic at Facebook, with company executives pushing against any suggestion that the company may contribute to the negative discourse prevalent in the US and other countries where it is popular.


By the time it came to Twitter, however, her interview was being talked about for only one reason: headbands.

Some questioned whether he was doing it for a charity, medical purpose, or whether Mr. Horwitz had simply lost a bet.

“Is a headband medically necessary?” One commenter tweeted on Mr. Horwitz. “head injury?” another pair.

Others saw more fanciful meanings behind the headband. Many commented that Mr. Horvitz looked like Luther, the leader of the rival gang “The Rogues”, from the 1979 cult classic Warrior.

Mr. Horwitz explained the instinctive reason behind wearing the headband in a tweet, quipped that he was happy for the audience meet the Press was entertained.

“The headband has been a very constant thing for me during a very long and awkward COVID-time reporting project. Glad it was a little bit of fun for the people on the show,” he said.

“When I woke up in the Pacific at 4 a.m., I was inspired by two desires: to contribute to a productive discourse about a world-changing technology company and to wear a sport-coat accessorized sweatband on national television. Trust me 100% that I accomplished the latter.”

Within hours of Mr. Horwitz debuting his look on NBC, it was already attracting copycats.

The New York Times Media correspondent Ben Smith wore a white headband for the first few seconds of his interview with Brian Stelter on CNN reliable sources Before mocking Mr. Horowitz’s look and taking it off.
