Yevgeny Kulesh, 38, was somehow trapped under the massive background during a set change during an opera performance – as the actors and orchestra inadvertently continued with the act.

A man on stage cries when he finds out what has happened. The music then slows down while the bewildered actors wave a helping hand.

“Wait, wait! Call the ambulance, someone hit the background! There’s blood!” The man shouts in Russian.

The stunned crowd gasps from their seats as the curtain closes suddenly.

In the heart-wrenching pictures, Kulesh’s crushed body can be seen from under the sets. According to Russian media, by the time first responders arrived, he had been pronounced dead. He reportedly worked at the Bolshoi for two decades.

A terrible accident occurred during a performance of the 19th century opera “Sadko” by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

According to Russian reports, it is not yet known how Kulesh got trapped, but he is believed to have gone in the wrong direction during the set change.

Nikolai Tsiskardze, a former Bolshoi dancer, told the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda that, condemning the conditions of the prestigious theatre, the artist was innocent in the accident.

He said, “There is hell behind the stage. Dancers damage their feet when they fall on sets and stairs.” “We must not blame Yevgeny or find the scapegoat.”

Tsiskardze said he had complained about the allegedly dangerous situation at the Bolshoi for decades.

“There is no order, no medicine, no morality…,” he said.

An audience member told a Russian newspaper that it was his first show ever in the theatre, and he initially believed the incident was a part of the performance until the lights went out.
