Sam explained: ‘It was a surprise but we didn’t stop it from happening, if that makes sense. We discussed after Molly that we want the kids to be close together and what it means to be together.

‘Mine was about 18 months old and I wanted to start trying after Christmas. But Tom’s close together had to start trying after my six week check!’

The couple also discussed the effect Sam’s pregnancy had on her career prospects.

Last year Sam and rugby star Ugo Mooney were approached on Question of Sport to take on Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell as captains. Paddy McGuinness replaced Sue Barker as host.

Tom assured: ‘The question of the game could not have been more helpful. Timing wise, it could work out really well if Sam is a part of the next series as the baby will arrive before filming begins.’

The couple also admitted that part of their decision to rapidly expand their family also came from losing a child last year because they were worried it would take longer to get pregnant.

In early 2020, Sam and Tom learned they were five weeks pregnant after a year of trying to conceive. But five weeks later, Sam miscarried.

‘I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I felt guilty and ashamed that it was my fault,’ Sam said of the previously disastrous times.

The former England hockey player then revealed that she was pregnant again in November 2019 and welcomed daughter Molly in March.

Sam and Tom married at Chester Racecourse in 2018 after getting engaged in June 2017 when Tom proposed during a vacation in Tenerife.

Before turning to TV, Sam was an English former field hockey player, playing as a defender for both the England and Great Britain teams.

He won the gold medal as part of the British team at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
