“Saturday Night Live” cast member Michael Che is in hot water after joking on this week’s “Weekend Update” segment that some have considered anti-Semitism.

While most of the opening segments were devoted to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for his now-infamous trip to Cancun, a brief joke made by Che prompted intense reactions on social media. The Star commented on a recent headline about Israel’s attempts to vaccinate against coronovirus.

“Israel is reporting that they have vaccinated half their population,” They said. “And I think it was the Jewish half.”

The joke referred to the fact that Israel has faced massive international criticism from its highly successful vaccination campaign leaving Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza. The shipment was halted for two days before the government approved it as the government faced an inquiry from a parliamentary committee. However, Israeli lawmakers first suggested using the vaccine as a vaccine chip for the release of captives by the region’s militant Hamas rulers.
