A man armed with a bow and arrow killed several people and injured others before being arrested near the Norwegian capital Oslo on Wednesday.


Kongsberg city police chief said there was a “confrontation” between the officers and the attacker, but did not elaborate. He said there were several deaths but did not give any details.

Norwegian broadcaster NRK reported that at least four people were killed.

Police chief Ouying Aas said, “The person who carried out this act has been arrested by the police, and no more people are being sought. Based on the information we have, one person is behind this.” “

The police received information about the attack at around 6.30 pm and the suspect was arrested about 20 minutes later. The community is 66 kilometers (41 mi) south-west of Oslo.

According to the police, the suspect roamed the city by shooting arrows at the people. Aas said several people were injured in the shops.

The man has not yet been questioned, and his motive was unknown, Aas said.

City officials invited those affected by the attack and their relatives to gather for support at a local hotel.
