It’s the shocking moment when a man posing as an Amazon delivery driver beat up a 14-year-old girl, her aunt and grandmother in a brutal robbery.
Sandals Hornia, 36, wearing a hi-vis jacket and carrying a parcel called to the family home in Luton, Beds.
CCTV footage shown in 24-hour police custody captured him ringing the doorbell and punching a 14-year-old girl in the face as soon as she opened the door.
Hornia knocked the girl unconscious as soon as she entered the house – knocking her too – before hitting her screaming 61-year-old girl in the head.
He went on to drag the couple through the hallway and into their kitchen, when a third woman, the teen’s aunt, came downstairs.
Hornia punched her in the face five times and forcibly took her to the kitchen as well.
Hornia, who moved to the UK in 2018 after serving 11-and-a-half years in prison in Romania, stole a satellite TV box, Nintendo Wii and a game console before escaping home.
Later that day, he fled to his home country of Romania in a plane before being caught via a European arrest warrant and extradited to the UK on 11 February this year.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of dacoity, assault with intent to cause bodily harm and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Hornia later told his lawyers that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and had been asked by someone else to commit robberies and assaults.
Sentencing, Judge Mark Bishop said Hornia’s previous custodial sentence was a serious factor in the severity of his prison term.
Hornia served 11-and-a-half years in prison in Romania for several crimes including assault, sex trafficking and controlling a child aged 13 to 17 into prostitution.
Judge Bishop said in his remarks; “It is clear that this attack was targeted and pre-planned.
“It’s somewhat evident from your subterfuge dressed as an Amazon delivery driver, who looks like a delivery.
“Your use of violence was immediate and merciless and chilling to watch.”
Sentencing him, he said: “It was a shocking and brutal attack on three women aged 14 to 61 in their own home, in which two of them fell unconscious – one with a fracture to her face, and one Had to undergo an operation, and with the other two bleeding on his brain.
“The third was punched four times in the face and left with a bruise.”
It was a shocking and brutal attack on three women aged 14 to 61 in their own home, leaving two of them unconscious – one with fractures to the face, undergoing an operation, and the brain of the other. But there were two hemorrhages.
Judge Mark Bishop
The 14-year-old victim suffered a facial fracture, while the 61-year-old victim had two hemorrhages on the brain – both were hospitalized. The third victim has injury marks on her face.
A victim’s statement of a juvenile victim, which the judge summarized in court, states that she often has nightmares about her house being demolished.
Judge Bishop said: “She no longer feels safe at home, which is a place where she should feel safe.
“When the doorbell rings she feels like she wants to run away. She’s worried and tense now.”
Hornia of Luton will have to serve a minimum of 11 years of his 16-year prison sentence before being eligible for parole.
This comes as the police try to break into a family home by two men pretending to be police officers.
The men wore crude police uniforms, including hats and lanyards, during Tuesday’s cold event in Barking, east London.
