Fiona was left speechless, and newsreader Chrissy Reid apologized and shortened the broadcast, saying: “Oh dear, sorry for the interruption there.”

Fiona later tweeted after the broadcast: “Live reporting on the refuse collectors’ strike today in #Brighton when about 7 people jumped in front of the camera shouting offensive and threatening words.

“It’s not a joke. It’s anti-feminist. Just calling it out.”

Other women criticized Yobs’ behavior, branding them as “disgusting” and “shameful”.

One responded to a tweet from furious journalists, writing: “Turn on BBC News after a week where Boris Johnson admits misogyny is a problem, but he won’t do anything about it just to see it.”

Another said: “It wasn’t funny at all, it was abusive and abusive behavior. I hope the police is informed and action will be taken.

“A bad incident, but handled like a true professional.”

The female reporter’s on-air interruption comes as the police and other officials are under pressure to take women’s safety more seriously.

The calls come in the wake of the death of Sarah Everard, who was killed by Metropolitan Police officers Wayne Couzens and Sabina Nessa.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said last week that he considers misogyny a problem, rejecting calls by activists to classify it as a hate crime.

He said making communities safe and allowing women to walk home safely at night was his “number one priority”, but added that making it a hate crime would “overload” the justice system.

independent inquiry

Priti Patel announced yesterday that there would be an independent investigation to investigate “systematic failures” by police following the murder of Sarah Everard.

She said her death “highlighted unimaginable failures” in policing and claimed that an investigation would “ensure that something like this never happens again”.

Justice Secretary Dominic Raab also found himself in hot water, saying: “Misogyny is absolutely wrong whether it is a man against a woman or a woman against a man.”

Labor MP Preet Kaur Gill reprimanded Mr Raab, saying: “It’s so disgraceful!

“Dominic Raab should know the difference that this is making fun of a very serious issue that women face.”
