The latest Weekend update on Saturday Night Live began with jokes about the current president, but it still cannot survive Donald Trump’s presidency. Perhaps this is why Trump and his most illiterate follower, Marjorie Taylor Green, were elected to Congress.
Greene was stripped of his committee seats in the US House of Representatives earlier in the week, and the update made sure to make fun of him and support various conspiracy theories, giving Democrats a rebuke. Michael Che jokingly said that all those beliefs made him a “type” before issuing support for a conspiracy theory that is far less harmful to the health of the Republic.
“I’m kidding, whoever believes in those crazy conspiracies will be just as blind as pretending to be Stevie Wonder,” Che said.
The section also covered Fox News’ election fraud lawsuit, and called Donald Trump a “former social media influencer,” which sparked applause. But the line of greatest laughter came when Colin Jost reconsidered Trump’s refusal to testify in his second impeachment trial in the Senate.
“I guess when I say that we speak for everyone, please?” Jost asked. “Give us one last show, man. Do you know? Stop feeling sorry for yourself, put in your extension and expose that lawsuit as if it’s Maurie Povich and you’re not a father. “
Later in the section, SNL Mocked a Morgan Wallen at Jost’s expense, though the show issued an apology a few months before the musical guest released an apology from the song that broke the Coronovirus Safety Protocol.
It does not appear that he will get a chance on the second apology song for this special event, but you never know.
