Sterolab shares rare song ‘household name’ ahead of ‘electronically presented’ compilation

“The track has some beautiful vocals and a superb keyboard arrangement”

Nineties veteran Sterlab has shared the rare track ‘Household Name’ ahead of the release of his forthcoming compilation ‘Electronically Posed’.

The song, which you can listen to below, appeared in the band’s 2000 mini-album ‘The First of the Microb Hunters’.

Reflecting on the original recording of the track, guitarist Tim Gane said: “During a two-week break in a tour of Cobra and Phase Group LP we decided to go to Blackwing Studios to record a bunch of tracks” Old Style – Sidhi – Tape for the world’s first double-mini album ‘First of the Microb Hunters’.

“It was that kind of moment and only one song was written in it (‘Outer Bongolia’ – originally played by On On for three concerts played at the time of the release of their LP 28/07/97). The song that was already recorded and mixed earlier (‘I Feel the Air’ – was originally for ‘Dots and Loops’), but we ran out of time to mix it up to master it and So it was abandoned). “

“As a result – as time was tight other tracks were written very fast in two or three days. ‘Household Names’ was one of three tracks written on the first day (by order running on my Faustex cassette) and it’s a bit of a hark in the poppy side of the ETK period I think.

“The track has some beautiful vocals and great keyboard arrangements courtesy of Sean O’Hagan. We played too much as a band and unlike the previous two LPs we didn’t use any computers. Andy [Ramsay]The title for the song was ‘Dicky Bowes on Dawn’, a reference to the cabaret wedding band Sound. “

The ‘Electronically Posed’, which debuted on 26 February via Warp and Duophonic UHF discs, is a 3xLP set covering the period from 1999 to 2008.

It will include rarities, outtakes and non-album tracks including ‘The First of the Microb Hunters’, unreleased outcuts from the ‘Mars Odd Quintet’ and ‘Dots and Loops’ sessions, and a track previously titled “Dimension M2” Which was first released in 2005 on the ‘Disco Cabin’ compilation.

The compilation will be released on vinyl as part of the group’s fourth campaign of ‘Switch On’. You can pre-order it here.
