According to tonight’s results, the pair were happy to make it to the semi-finals.

Claudia Winkleman asked the two what this moment meant to them, John replied: “Thank you for continuing us because this journey is wonderful and I don’t want it to end now, not with a drop.”

The BBC One host then recalled how nervous she was when she first met John in September.

He asked: “Did you ever think you were going to be here in the semi-finals?”

“No, I didn’t think I had the confidence or the strength to move forward and that depends on it.

“He’s held my hand all the way, he’s been a massive emotional support.

“He’s kind, he never raised his voice on me, even though I wanted him at one point.

“He’s just been there fearlessly, so thank you for showing me so much more than just dancing. It’s been a life lesson and I love you so much.”

An emotional Johannes shed tears and replied: “I love you too, thank you.”

The pair then shared a priceless moment together as they hugged and cried after an emotional week.

Last night, Strictly fans were left outraged tonight as John was harshly flagged after an error by his pro teammate Johannes.

A scintillating dance move meant the former Bake Off star was forced to knock the South African to the floor.

Johannes had given his partner the wrong hand to grab, causing him to drop him to the floor.

However, ever the pro, he attempted to make the deck look like part of the dance by hitting it with an outstretched hand.

Some felt the dance was underestimated as a result – Craig Ravel-Horwood gave it a modest seven.

He previously told the pair: “I love it when it goes wrong, I absolutely love it.”

But many fans thought it was unfair for John to get a low score when it was not Bungle’s fault.

Some thought he was being unfairly punished when one viewer tweeted: “Is it fair to punish John for Johannes’ mistake?”

Another wrote: “It’s a bit unfair to mark them for fault by a professional dancer!”

Johannes made the mistake by saying shortly after his dance: “I gave him the wrong hand.”

This landed them with a score of 32 which saw them lag behind the other quarterfinalists.

Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu were awarded 39, as were Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernis.
