Strictly Come Dancing fans were stunned tonight when Shirley Ballas praised deaf actress Rose Ayling-Ellis for stopping the noise.
The 27-year-old EastEnders star posted an impressive score of 39 following his performance with support partner Giovanni Pernis.
He told Rose, whose dance followed Rhys Stephenson’s: “Before Rhys walked ahead of you, there was a lot of noise, clapping.
“You came in and you blocked it and you gave the performance of a lifetime. You had beautiful footwork, your posture was excellent.”
Rose, who plays the daughter of Danny Dyer’s character in EastEnders, is the first deaf person to take part in Strictly.
One viewer angrily said: “Is Shirley taking the p**s??? Talking about how Rose stopped the noise before the performance???”
Another said: “She made a silly comment about Rose ignoring all the noise and cheering for Rice – she remembers being deaf!”
A third posted: “Shirley Ballas to Rose there was ‘so much noise and clapping but you stopped it’, erm.”
Another said: “Oh Shirley. What did she say to Rose when it came to her.”
The actress and her supporting partner Giovanni received a nine and three tens, giving her a nearly perfect score of 39.
This put her at the top of the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard, combined with Rhys and Nancy on the judges’ score alone.

Viewers will know tomorrow where the couple is placed once the votes of the viewers at home are added.
Elsewhere in tonight’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing, AJ Odudu sobbed after a lift malfunctioned.
He jammed his foot next to AJ Widdington’s face—with the couple left rock-bottom of the leaderboard.
A similar problem occurred when John White and Johannes Radebe tried a lift, in which the pro dancer dropped to the floor.
