Yugo Mooney revealed that he attended his father’s funeral hours before his first Strictly Come Dancing performance on Saturday night.

The 38-year-old rugby union player left the show’s audience and judges in shock as he dedicated his first dance melodiously to his late father’s ‘celebration’.

He told the show’s presenter Claudia Winkleman: ‘My dad passed away a few weeks ago [from] Prostate cancer, we had our last rites this morning.’

Yugo paid a touching tribute to his father after taking to the dancefloor to perform a live samba with his professional partner Oti Mabuse.

Regarding his father’s funeral, Ugo told Claudia: ‘During the funeral he spoke of today being a day of celebration and felt exactly the same today.

‘There’s no better way to celebrate than by dancing, so tonight is really special.’

As he was giving a heartfelt speech in honor of his father, Oti proudly stood next to Yugo.

Although Yugo scored only 18 out of 40, he certainly impressed judge Shirley Ballas with his move.

Yugo and Oti dance passionately on the dance floor as they turn to the Dixie Cup hit ’80s track Echo Echo.

He said: ‘You have all the gear, my dear! There is no part of your body that doesn’t want to move, even if it doesn’t want to, it wants to.

‘You had Volta going in the opposite direction but you rediscovered Volta. You make me feel good baby!’

Speaking earlier about his reasons for participating in Strictly, Ugo said: My two beautiful daughters never got the chance to see me on the rugby pitch.

‘So, to know that they can see me walking and twirling every week is really special to me.

‘I love a dress at the best of times, so bring the sequins,’ he said cheekily.
