It comes as the star unveiled a newly-made statue of Anne Lister – the ‘first modern lesbian’ – in Halifax on Sunday.

Anne was an entrepreneur and landowner, and had relationships with women, which she details in the diaries for which she is now famous.

The magazines were written in code partly because her behavior was not socially accepted at the time, and also told about her life as a business woman in Halifax – as well as her social interactions, which All make up the story of the BBC series.

Surne revealed the statue, which is located in the town of West Yorkshire, with series creator Sally Wainwright.
