Police said the child’s grandmother, 47-year-old Amy Salinas-Alvarado, was found dead inside her home with a single bullet to the head.

An investigation determined that Salinas-Alvarado’s teenage son shot and killed the child before taking him to his great-grandfather’s home, the news release said.

Police said the suspect then took his mother’s car and drove to a friend’s house, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Police said the teenager gave a full confession to the detectives in the murder and was arrested. The teenager was then taken to the Henry Wade Juvenile Detention Facility.

It was not immediately clear whether the juvenile had a lawyer. Police did not say how the teenager was related to the two-year-old.
