Frontman Faris Badwan said, “The ‘Against the Blade’ EP is another descent into chaos.” “It’s about the freedom that comes with letting go of all hope, giving up control, and accepting that you will always be at odds with the world around you”.

“Once the ball started rolling with writing ‘Lout’, I liked the idea of challenging the band to push all the songs in as extreme a direction as possible,” added bassist Rice Webb.

Other tracks on the EP include ‘Twisted Skin’ and ‘I Took a Deep Breath and I Kept My Mouth Shut’.

Webb said, “‘Against the Blade’ and ‘Twisted Skin’ were both written in Southend-on-Sea over lockdown, making it the most DIY musical ever.”

“The first demos were written in my bedroom and Jose was in the works” [Spurgeon] Studio the Bunker, a shipping container that overlooks the estuary. The only elements recorded in an actual studio were vocals, we also recorded guitars in our front room. “

Speaking about his recent change in direction, Badwan said: “There’s something about our recent writing that felt really free and liberating, like being let off a leash – a bit ironic given the lockdown forced us into certain ways of doing things.”

“It almost feels like a new band now — a fresh start just in time for the apocalypse.”

Horrors are due later this year with three shows starting at Bristol’s Marble Factory on 25 November and continuing the following evening at Manchester’s Albert Hall. They will wrap up on December 3 at the Electric Ballroom in London.
