Apple has revealed the iPhone 13 Pro soon after unveiling its generic sibling.
The new phone is largely identical to the cheaper version: Like the regular iPhone 13, it has a smaller notch in the display and a new camera system. Like last year, the two versions of the iPhone have more similarities than differences.
But the phone’s “most pro design ever” on the outside, Apple said. This includes new material on the sides and a new blue color.
And unlike last year’s iPhones, the Pro model has a few different internal features. It has a 5-core GPU which enables it to process graphics better than its non-Pro sibling.
And it has different display features that set it apart from even the cheaper models. It has a “Promotion” display that allows the display to change its refresh rate – going especially high when scrolling, but slowing down when not necessary to ensure better battery life.
Promotion was already available in iPad Pro. It has long been rumored to be coming to the iPhone – but reports had suggested that Apple struggled to integrate it without difficulties for the battery.
Like the iPhone 12 Pro, the new version includes three lenses. But all three of them have been upgraded to add a slew of features, including a wide lens and night mode for macro pictures.
The telephoto lens is now also taller to provide greater zoom: it can go up to three times instead of two.
Later this year, Apple will also introduce the option to record video in ProRes format. Apple said that means it was the first smartphone to allow the option to record and share video throughout the process, the way professionals would.
The battery has also been improved as it was in the non-Pro version. Apple said the iPhone 13 Pro Max will last 2.5 hours longer – making ti the longest battery life ever on any iPhone.
The new phone comes in the same size it did last year: a generic model, which is the same size as the iPhone 13, as well as a much larger “Pro Max” phone.
The new iPhones cost the same as the current models: $999 for the Pro, and $1,099 for the Pro Max.
Apple will also offer a 1TB option, which is the largest amount of storage ever on an iPhone.
The pre-orders will start from Friday and will go on sale a week later.
