Shanivari Night Live Really explored space with the Super Bowl in its latest episode, focusing on its cold-open pregame show so you can skip before the big game and set up with the Super Bowl at once. But another sketch actually served a more practical purpose: warning people why they should cancel their large Super Bowl parties because others could not be trusted to be safe during the coronovirus epidemic.

The “Super Bowl Pod” sketch, featuring episode host Dan Levy, began watching the game in a mask with a group of friends. They talk about how safe they are, however, and so they remove those masks and start breaking how careful they have been to avoid dangerous activities during the still ongoing epidemic.

“We’re all very good,” one character says. “we deserve it.”

But things slowly unfold as each character promises that they were super careful, actually doing dangerous things like international travel, indoor food, and “raw sex with strangers in the park”.

Even the character who “got the vaccine” didn’t fix it: he still kept it in a vial that he carries with him everywhere. The sketch is absurd, but it takes it with an assumption that is far from true in the last year: many people think they are being careful, but for many people the definition of playing it safe is very much in an epidemic. Is different. Mistakes happen, which is why staying home and staying away from the mistakes of others is always the safest game possible.

And finally, everyone is a nice touch, thinking that they can’t smell or taste the spicy chili they eat with their hands. It’s probably very gentle that we’re still in an epidemic, which is a reminder SNL “Dr.” Fauci ”made a few more jokes and reminded everyone that it is a terrible idea to repeat the simulation. So stay home with snack food and condoms, I think.

“You feel like most Americans right now: bored, horny and borderline nuts. I know I am, “Kate McKinnon, as Fauci said.” But what you saw was the wrong way to the Super Bowl. “

The sketch is fun, but it also has a real message behind it. With Thanksgiving and Christmas many, many public health officials worry that Super Bowl parties may be superspreader events, especially with new variants of coronaviruses infecting people more quickly than before. It’s okay to present it with a little humor, but the advice behind the sketch is very valid: You should probably stay indoors and avoid big parties, even if everyone says they are safe.

Heidi Gardner, it should be noted, is actually a major fan. So it may have been his own Patrick Mahomes jersey, which he wore for the sketch. She The closing credits also wore a custom chief’s dress, and stated on Instagram that someone had made a dress to wear at that exact moment.

Later in this episode, another Super Bowl sketch featured the bar’s patron with a “football song” that you definitely would never have heard of.

The Weekend update also had some Super Bowl jokes, though they were mostly about Tampa if we’re honest.
