After a warm weekend, the Brits started the week with wind and rain, marking the start of the autumn season.

According to the Met Office, 60 mm of rain is expected in the UK today, while later in the day dry weather will spread from the west.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for rain in parts of Scotland.

Flooding is affecting areas around the River Trent between Norton Green and Darlestone, including Stoke on Trent, Lime Brook between Newcastle and Foley Brook between Lyme and Hanford, Stoke on Trent and Ford Green Brook. .

The Met Office urges locals to avoid low footpaths and bridges near local watercourses.

After a largely dry start, hailstorm and thundershower conditions will continue to remain in “shaky” conditions across the country tomorrow.

Forecasters have predicted a “mix of sunny and foggy rain” with merging of heavy rains over the central and southern regions.

Similar weather is likely for the rest of the week, with occasional hailstorms and thunderstorms, with temperatures slightly below normal.

According to the Met’s long-range forecast, “the cyclonic pattern will likely move into October, bringing largely unstable conditions across the UK and dividing from the north-west to the south-east.”

Despite the gloomy weather, the Met Office said in mid-October “there may be a chance for settled conditions to become more prevalent for a time over much of the UK”.

From October 10, forecasters said temperatures were likely to remain near or slightly above average.
