Tourist robbed of engagement ring, wedding band in NYC

A tourist visiting the Big Apple with her husband was robbed of her engagement ring and wedding band in a cold-hearted theft in Hell’s Kitchen early Tuesday.

Two men came to her aid, but in the process, one snatched her engagement ring from her finger, police said.

According to police, the couple from Meerox, Louisiana, were waiting for a cab on West 46th Street at about 12:30 when the 33-year-old woman stumbled and fell.

When her 44-year-old husband confronted the thief, the miscreant dragged him around his neck and pulled his shirt, which looked like a gun in his waistband, police said.

According to police sources, the thug also grabbed the woman’s wedding band and fled with a ring in her mouth.

Police said the couple is staying at a hotel in Times Square.

Police are looking for both the youths.

The husband, who arrived on Wednesday, declined to comment.

“I feel bad for them,” Gustavo Perez, a waiter at a restaurant near the scene of the ring robbery, told The Post on Wednesday. “I bet their vacation is ruined. You don’t want to be robbed on your vacation.”

“And those things have a lot of sentimental value,” Perez said.

Local resident Chad Ryan said the neighborhood is not as safe as it was.

He said there has been a spurt in crime in the region. “I’ll take my dog out for a midnight walk but, no thanks. I don’t do that anymore. I don’t feel safe.”

“I walk my dog around 10, 10:30” [p.m.],” Ryan said. “It seems more dangerous now in a while.”
